Why do we go to college? The most prominent answer is to get a job, but how do we decide on which career path to take? Well, some of our biology students here at UNH Manchester have done the work for you!
The Science Symposium is just around the corner, Thursday, December 5, and is comprised of students who have put a lot of work into researching different careers. This is not easy work either, a lot of time and dedication created these projects.
Stephen Pugh, associate professor and department chair for the Biology Department, described the symposium as an “experiential learning activity, an internship, research, or independent study project, that serves as the culminating activity of a student’s undergraduate career. Students this year have done internships in pharmacies, surgical practices, emergency rooms, physical therapy practices, magnetic resonance imaging facilities, the Massabesic Audubon Sanctuary, and have cared for patients as Licensed Nursing Assistants.”
Naeleh Marin, a biology student presenting at the event, gave us an insight to what the event has to offer. “The most interesting part of my internship was to be able to find out that I took the right path to become a biology major and that I enjoy making a difference," said Marin. "I believe that an event like this is a great opportunity for us as well as for other students. It’s nice to be able to share with other classmates or students what our experiences were at a facility or researching about a specific topic.”
Why would you miss an opportunity to ask questions regarding an array of careers at the same time as supporting your fellow classmates? I don’t see who would. The following is a list of students and their presentation topics:
Let your curiosity guide you! Come find out what our classmates have researched for their capstone projects on Thursday, December 5 in room 354, 356 between 4:00-5:30 p.m.
