Whether you are a first-year student or a transfer, you can’t go wrong with the University of New Hampshire’s campus in Manchester. Here are five reasons why you should consider a UNH Manchester education, as told by students and alumni.
Location
UNH Manchester is housed in the recently renovated Pandora Mill building, and it is here where all of the classes take place.
“It’s a great location in a beautiful, refurbished historic mill building,” said Brian Tassey, a junior in the Communication Arts program. “It’s definitely a one-of-a-kind experience.”
The city of Manchester is also our campus, offering great opportunities for students to intern at local businesses, indulge at restaurants and unwind at concerts or sporting events. And with partnerships with the YMCA, New Hampshire Institute of Art and more, there’s no shortage of things to do and learn.
Sense of Community
There is a strong sense of community at UNH Manchester, so it’s no surprise that those who come here feel at home right away.
"The sense of community at UNH Manchester is amazing,” said psychology major Sara Clark. “You develop great relationships with professors, peers and staff, all of which encourage and motivate you further.”
Campus events and student clubs in the arts, culture and athletics allow students to meet other people and help make the transition easier.
Small Classes
Having small classes gives UNH Manchester an advantage over other schools by providing a smaller, more intimate learning environment. Here, students have a better chance to get to know their professors and classmates.
“With the small class sizes, you don't just feel like a number," said biological sciences major Nathan Domingues. "The teacher knows your name, and you get to know the people in your class much better. It is just a better overall learning experience."
Supportive Faculty
Because the class sizes are small, you get one-on-one guidance from professors who want you to succeed. Getting to know your professors personally not only helps in the classroom, but also after graduation when you may need letters of recommendation.
“My favorite part of campus is the staff and faculty,” said Michael Elliott, a senior in the Mechanical Engineering Technology program. “Everyone is friendly and wants to get to know you personally.”
Value
The best reason out of all the others is that the campus in Manchester allows students to get a respected UNH education that’s both conveniently located and affordable. As primarily a commuter campus, UNH Manchester students save on the housing expenses and fees that are commonplace at residential campuses.
“I could live affordably by living locally and not have to worry about paying room and board and excessive fees,” said Derek Burkhardt, a graduate of the Biological Sciences program. “I wanted a degree that was going to be respected and pertinent, and UNH Manchester had all of those things.”
